Set in the Italian Embassy of Chile in 1973. The building had become a refugee point during Pinochet’s coup d’état. Political asylum seekers, everyday workers, and foreign officials all got caught in the crossfire during the bloody takeover. For months and months, the conditions inside the embassy worsened, yet the united front of people fighting for human rights, persevered against the rampant abuse of the usurper’s incipient government. In this regard, Italy played a pivotal role, as it managed to establish diplomatic talks with Pinochet’s sympathisers, but at the same time it refused to recognise and accept their rule. Thereby becoming a beacon of hope for the many people left behind in the consequent chaos.
